Art of Generosity

Some generosity opens the hand. A deeper kind opens the mind.

This is the generosity of letting others be entirely themselves. Each person's mind is a whole world, as real as the one you wake into each morning.

Their world needs no correction from yours to be complete.

When someone acts against everything you hold true, you don't have to take it personally. You can still refuse what does harm and also see their view as one more face of the same vast world, turned toward you.

Your life and the people in it are woven together. When you give others room to be themselves, you find more room in yourself.

I express this in my piece, Moon in a Dewdrop. The moon rises over dewdrops on tall grass. I left the dew unpainted, yet each hidden drop holds the entire moon, the way each person holds a whole world.

The moon gives itself whole to every drop.
