Art of Undone

Year's end brings a reckoning with what remains unfinished.

The projects abandoned mid-flight, plans folded back into drawers, ideas that never crystallized. We live in a world that measures us by what we produce, and so incompletion arrives wearing the mask of failure.

But the hunger for completion is infinite. Cross one threshold, and another materializes. While we sprint toward each successive endpoint, life moves through us in moments too small to capture on any task list.

The undone may be our most honest teacher.

It exposes the machinery of our striving, reveals what we lose when we reduce existence to a balance sheet. It whispers that the things which genuinely matter cannot be checked off or completed.

I’ve learned that what I leave untouched in my artwork often reveals the heart of the piece. What is left undone completes it in a way no extra element ever could.

There is grace in leaving things undone. A grace in loosening our grip, in allowing life to remain open-ended, breathing.

As this year closes, know that nothing you leave undone can separate you from the life you already are.

Your life is whole and sufficient.
